My yearly trip to India
Every year, I travel to India for a month. Rather than visiting at the same time each year, I like to go during different seasons so I can experience the country as it changes throughout the year and observe how life shifts with it.
These journeys are also an important part of my work. I travel to learn new techniques for the salon, to study traditional practices, and to reconnect with the roots of the therapies. Just as importantly, the trip helps me stay grounded. This year, my journey took place in February, beginning in the north and ending far to the south in Goa.
The contrast across the country was striking. In Punjab, in North India, the mornings were foggy and the nights were chilly. As I travelled south, the air gradually warmed until it became the familiar southern Indian sun. My journey in India always begins in the north, in the small village where my family comes from.
At the centre of the village stands a small temple built by my ancestors many years ago. Before I begin travelling anywhere else, I always spend a moment there in reflection. It feels like an important way to ground myself and honour where I come from before continuing the journey.
This year felt particularly special. When I arrived, the village had been beautifully decorated for a festival, with colourful decorations and a real sense of celebration in the streets. Seeing my village alive with such happiness brought me such joy.
As I continued travelling through India towards the south, I encountered many different Ayurvedic treatments and healing practices. Each place had its own unique way of performing them. While many were different from the therapies I practise myself, the intention behind them felt the same everywhere, with a focus on connection and peace. These inspired me and deepened my knowledge.
I returned home feeling grounded, with a healthy gut and deeply reconnected with my traditions. Each journey to India reminds me why these ancient practices are so powerful. The country has a way of slowing life down and bringing me back to what truly matters.
The deeper meaning of this journey is a reminder that true wellness comes from staying connected to our roots and ourselves. I now feel more balanced and inspired - and I’m ready to share that energy with all of you.
