The moment that changed my view on happiness and wellbeing

When people ask what influences my work the most, my answer is always the same: travel and the way people experience happiness. Over the years, I’ve come to realise that wellbeing isn’t a fixed concept. It’s deeply personal, shaped by culture, environment, values — and sometimes, by fleeting moments that stay with us forever.

One such moment happened in Mauritius.

I was sitting at a beautiful beach bar, sipping champagne with my husband, gazing out at the turquoise water and feeling genuinely content. It felt like the picture of happiness — luxury, serenity, love. Everything was perfect.

Then I noticed two young boys playing in the sea. They’d arrived with nothing but a small plastic bag containing a single bottle of Coca-Cola. No towels, no toys, no gadgets. Just each other and the ocean.

They ran straight into the water, laughing and playing Every so often, they would run back to the shore, take a sip from the bottle, and race back in. I couldn’t take my eyes off them. They radiated pure, unfiltered joy.

At one point, the older boy playfully pushed his younger brother, who stumbled and fell, crying as he surfaced. Within seconds, the older boy rushed to him, pulled him into a warm hug, and led him gently back to the shore. He offered him the bottle of Coke with a tenderness that said more than words ever could.

It was in that small, powerful moment that something shifted in me.

There I was, believing happiness came wrapped in luxury and calm. But these boys, with nothing more than each other and a bottle of Coke, embodied something deeper. It made me realise: happiness isn't always about having more. Sometimes, it’s about having enough.

That single moment gave me a quiet but profound clarity - one that has shaped not just my worldview, but the entire foundation of my work at Hyp Therapié. From that day, I started seeing wellbeing differently.

I built my practice around five core lessons those boys unknowingly taught me:

Happiness doesn’t require excess — it needs presence

The boys didn’t need beach toys or perfect conditions, as their joy came from the moment itself. At Hyp Therapié, I focus on treatments that create presence, not performance. It’s not about doing more — it’s about helping you return to yourself.

Connection is the real medicine

The older boy’s instinctive compassion reminded me that healing often starts with how we’re held and seen. I aim to lead with empathy at Hyp Therapie. Every session is a safe space, where you’re not just treated, but you’re cared for, too.

Freedom nourishes the soul

Their play was wild and free, which was deeply healing to witness. I tailor every treatment to each client’s body’s rhythm that day — no rigid routines, just freedom to feel.

Simplicity can be profound

One Coke bottle, one ocean, one hug. That was all it took. I use minimal, intentional tools and techniques. Every product and gesture has a purpose, chosen to soothe, not overwhelm.

Small moments matter most

That entire scene lasted minutes, yet it lives in me forever. This has led me to believe in the power of small details — the soft towel, the grounding breath, the gentle silence. These are the things that truly shift us.
